About Volusia County

There's more to this area than just the Famous Daytona Beach, Bike Week, and Daytona 500. Starting with the Timucuan Indian Tribes through the Spanish Conquistadors, Volusia County contains more history and firsts than many people know.

Starting with its northern city of Palm Coast, the Birthplace of Speed - this sleepy community is home to Hawaaiin Tropic and some of the most spectacular oceanfront properties on the East Coast of Florida.  Nestled within the community is a picturesque drive on the Old Dixie Highway known as the Loop which leads visitors and residents alike into the luxiourious gated communities of Halifax Plantation and Plantation Bay.  Also nestled among the trees are the ruins of Bulow Plantation - an historical sugar plantation that was the center of the Indian Uprisings in the 1800's.

Glance south of Ormond beach and you are in the Famous City of Daytona Beach and its incredible high rise oceanfront condominiums and speedway.  Daytona Beach is also home to one of the finest Aeronautical Universities in the world - Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Main Campus.

Follow the A1A scenic Highway further south and you will see Port Orange - named for its spectacular export of an original Florida fruit.  Nestled on the southernmost peninsula of this city is the second tallest lighthouse in the United States and the world famous Ponce Inlet.

As you look across the causeway from the lighthouse, you will see the small exciting area of New Smyrna Beach, a coastal hamlet that lies yet undiscovered to many who seek the Florida lifestyle in an atmosphere of beach cottages and Intracoastal Mansions and Ocean Front Luxury homes nestled side by side.  The New Smyrna Sugar Mill Ruins County Historic Site is one of the sugar mills that thrived along the coast in the 1800’s and only the ruins remain after an 1835 Seminole Indian raid.

As you follow the roads inland, you'll run across the townships of Deland and Deltona.  Home to Stetson University and entry into the World famous St. John's River.  Deltona serves as a newer community accessible to nearby Orlando and its suburbs.
