The Alicorn is a mythical creature (a Winged Unicorn) spoken of in legends and revered by royalty throughout the ages.  It is also referred to as the horn of the unicorn,  which many royals thought they held as a symbol of their beneficience and power (many had alicorns as part of their crown jewels, of which they drank from, believing the horns would prevent poisonings).  Of course, it was later discovered that the horns they held were actually Narwhale horns.

In even the earliest references, the alicorn was said to cure fear and neutralize poison.   The creature itself was described as relentless yet good, unselfish yet independent, and always a sign of good fortune and luck. An Alicorn was said to be captured only by unfair means, and their appearance in any dire circumstance meant a quick resolution and happy ending.
